A Senior School Literature-in-English Tutor with rare expertise in preparing students for an A-grade performance
My experience in preparing candidates for Literature-in-English at the SSCE level spans over ten years. Literature could be said to be an artistic documentation of human experiences or history. Hence, creativity or artistry is at the core of any literary engagement. In order for the literature student to grasp the import of any literary production, most especially the recommended texts, there is the need for the tutor to fathom the experiential or historical background against which such a text is produced.
In other words, since no author writes in a vacuum, I always expatiate on the real-life events resulting in the composition of the recommended texts by the writers. By doing this, my students inevitably have a concrete focus or standpoint from which to start off their critical response or appreciation of a given literary work. The student is therefore assisted to hone his critical skill in a subject so dynamic to have a fixed interpretation or response.
The mastery of the language (English) in which the literary works are rendered is also emphasized to allow for holistic comprehension of the literary pieces. That is to say, the language use of the texts is laid bare to the students for them to easily fathom the messages encoded in the texts. Thus, with adequate and rigorous exposure to the aesthetic, experiential/historical and linguistic aspects of the recommended texts, my students always excel in their SSCE Literature-in-English with A's and B's.

I handle the teaching of English in terminal classes: JSS3 and SSS3. I supervise teachers in the department to ensure that they follow the prescribed syllabi, and that they adopt 21st-century learning techniques. I also mark their lesson notes and vet their examination questions for quality assurance.
