Competent Chemistry Tutor

Chemistry can be a challenging subject for many students. At its most challenging it incorporates calculus with abstract molecular concepts and unrelentingly asks for answers that are precise beyond 6.02x10^23rd!

I prefer to tackle questions by helping my students get a handle conceptually on what is occurring, and then introduce the appropriate formulas or secondary concepts to move us towards the answer. I find that having a framework of conceptual comprehension makes applying the math much more meaningful. To aid me in this I use a whiteboard to visualize the problems for my students which everybody has found immensely helpful.

About

My name is Alice I am a graduate of Biochemistry from the University of Ibadan. I have a PGCEi in view from the University of Nottingham.

I am a 21st century teacher who facilitates learning and help develop in children critical and creative thinking skills. I believe in multiple intelligence and that every child must and can achieve.

I have attended a number of training including Meadow Hall teacher training program, Tech-Savvy Teacher Masterclass Upgraded and many more.

I use a mixture of humor and rigorous learning, and also aim not just to focus on the exam, but to broaden the students' general cultural outlook. I am very flexible with regard to suiting the needs of the client, and aim to get to know the student and his or her learning techniques, building up confidence and knowledge as well as helping them become focused and ready for the exam.

I always work towards building a strong working relationship and trust between me and my student. This is very important, and being easily approachable is a vital characteristic a tutor should have. Some students may have just lost their inspiration to learn and so it is the tutor's job to motivate and inspire them. An important role for a tutor is to build a students confidence and acting as a mentor to them. Additionally, it is important the student is guided on an individual-based level and encouraged to actively engage and think, making links with information explained to them, and not spoon fed.

My approach is iterative; I constantly change the the way and level of what I teach in response to feedback from the student. Having spent time teaching, I have learnt a plethora of methods to remember the variety of material expected of the modern student, as well as the best strategies for effective preparation and techniques to use in the exam. More importantly, I bring an enthusiasm to the subjects I teach which I pass on to the student.
