Akinwunmi A.
Mathematics Tutor
Experienced Mathematics Tutor
It is my fundamental belief that making lessons interesting for my students is crucial in effective teaching.
This is especially so for Mathematics, where a huge amount of learning takes place while students are doing unassisted exercises.
Through my encouraging and animated approach to tutorials, i aim to instill a passion in my students, so that they will respond to such exercises with enthusiasm and confidence.
About
My name is Akinwunmi. I am a graduate of Chemical Engineering from the prestigious University of Lagos. I have also achieved a Post-Graduate Diploma in Education. I have over ten years teaching experience.
Having taught Mathematics and Physics in different tertiary institutions, i discovered one of the best things about tutoring versus teaching is that the nature of one-to-one lessons allows my teaching to be tailored specifically to the individual student.
So i think the most important part of tutoring is building a solid relationship with my students, such that i can work out exactly what they need from the lessons, and how best to deliver it to them.
My detailed knowledge in my expert subjects, when combined with the relationship i build with my students, allows me to go into details beyond the syllabus if i can tell that my student is wanting more or needs to be pushed.
But, i can also recognize when my student is struggling with a particular concept and then approach it from a new angle to help their understanding.

Having worked with a great number of students over the years, i have found that each of them learn and makes sense of their subjects in very particular ways. As such, i always try to match my teaching style with the learning style of my students. I have a great interest in learning strategies and understanding the myriad of ways in which students absorb information.
