I teach my students by challenging the assumptions they've made. If I show them where those assumptions break down, they develop new, more accurate models.

About

My name is Andrew, l am a graduate of Electrical/Electronics Engineering, From the University of Benin. For the past six years i have taught students Mathematics, Basic Technology and Physics, preparing the students for WASSCE, NECO and JAMB.

I am a big advocate in making sure students are equipped with all the tools to learn that will benefit them outside of our sessions , such as organisation and effective study techniques. I believe that it is really important that students learn to break problems down in a logical way so that they have the ability to tackle problems that might initially seem foreign - whether in academics or in life!

I spend a lot of time asking questions to make sure the students truly understand the concepts and then get them to teach it back to me as a way of clarifying their understanding. I try to come up with creative ways to learn and enforce concepts that are applicable to the real world; indeed with one maths student who particularly enjoyed football, I designed a premier league exercise to keep him engaged and practice his maths at the same time - I think he nearly forgot we were doing maths at all.

I welcome the focus on the individual learner that is a central feature of tutoring, and very much enjoy engaging in the lively dialogue and individualised feedback that enables tutees to grow in confidence as learners. I bring enthusiasm and energy to my tutoring. Thanks to my work as a school teacher, my approach to tutoring is also informed, where relevant, by a sound understanding of the assessment requirements for public examinations and school entrance examinations.

I take a student-focused approach to teaching, creating custom educational materials and lessons that suit the student’s needs best. The reason why it is simple is that there is no such thing as “one size fits all” when it comes to education. Students benefit tremendously from personalized instruction, whether it is to catch up in class, accelerate ahead to new material or learn something completely new and different.
