Verbal Reasoning Tutor
Dedicated Verbal Reasoning Tutor
My teaching style is tailored to the needs of whomever I'm teaching because I believe that everyone learns best at their own pace. For those students who struggle with Verbal Reasoning, I help them break down the subject into easily understandable principles. This fosters a strong base in the discipline from which they can improve. For stronger students I challenge them to push their understanding of the subject further and to think outside the box with their answers. I believe that people learn best when they are enthused about their subject; I want to help students enjoy their work so that they can perform to the very best of their ability.
My name is Mary, I am a graduate of English Education from the Lagos State University. I am currently a postgraduate student of the University of Lagos (M.A English Language).
Over the past two years i have prepared students for both internal and external examinations in English Language and Verbal Reasoning.
I am a young tutor who loves learning and wants to communicate that passion. Real academic success comes from a deep understanding of a subject and its relation to the world. That is why I believe that any student can excel as long as they know why they are working and learn to truly enjoy it.
On the technical side, I pay special attention to understanding mark schemes, deconstructing exams and working on unique exam strategies for every student. All too often, students lose confidence because they are not taught examination technique, which is a subtle and complicated skill on its own.
My approach to tutoring is warm and encouraging. Indeed, I believe that building a genuine relationship with a student is of great importance and that the greatest progress is made is by establishing open, honest and authentic dialogue.
I believe that all questions should be cheered with moments of authentic curiosity, whether about the etymology of a certain spelling word, or why it's possible to write an essay about a text without necessarily knowing what the author 'means' and this can both broaden comprehension and introduce challenging new ideas.

My approach to English Language and Verbal Reasoning tutoring is based around the core skills that make up most of the examination questions a student will encounter. I look at the student's reading comprehension, textual analysis, creative writing and essay technique. The broad applicability of these skills is what makes really good English tutoring so beneficial. If a student can learn to read with a sharp eye for detail, and write with insight and clarity, they will flourish in every academic discipline.
