The first word that comes to mind when I am asked about my teaching style is ‘varied’, and this isn’t simply because of the variety of subjects and age ranges I work with. The wonderful thing about tutoring is that it is such a personal experience. No student is the same and therefore no lesson should be the same. With all my tutees, I endeavour to tailor my lessons to their interests, learning styles and goals.

Enthusiasm and fun are also central to my teaching style as I firmly believe that with positivity and enjoyment comes confidence and improvement. Necessarily, lessons must often have an element of exam preparation and I highly value the importance of past paper practice and a clear understanding of the relevant exam techniques. Most importantly, I am always seeking fun and innovative ways to help students to acquire the skills that they require for academic success in Literature both now and in the future.

About

My name is Oladunni, a graduate of English and Literary Studies from Obafemi Awolowo University.

To be better equipped for this profession, I have gone ahead to acquire my Post Graduate Diploma in Education as well as several training's and certified courses from the University of Cambridge, University of Minnesota and East Tennessee State University.

I specialize in training students in line with the Nigerian curriculum with a blend of British and American curriculum. I also teach adults finding it difficult to learn the English language.

Last year, I was awarded the teacher of the year based on my students' fantastic performance in external examinations and my teaching pedagogy which is mainly interactive and collaborative. I train students to write exams like Cambridge Checkpoint, BECE, WASSCE, SAT, TOEFL, IGCSE and IELTS.

To score well on standardized test such as these, one must become familiar with both the content found on these tests and with the way the questions are structured. I know precisely which concepts are tested and which are not, and I can explain each of them in a number of different ways to help students with a variety of aptitudes and backgrounds.

My students also master the unwritten structural rules that govern these tests, so that they can confidently choose the correct answer even in situations where that choice appears arbitrary, and identify the time-saving shortcuts often hidden in the questions' wording.

In teaching writing, I stress clarity, organization, and support as a basis for all good writing. I include lessons on style and grammar when applicable. I relate these methods to all forms of writing and to all the disciplines. My goal is to help students develop the ability to think and write analytically, no matter what the topic is and to enable them, through writing, to take part in a larger dialogue about the world. My students show concrete improvement in their analytical skills and an improved ability to present a unified and tightly structured argument. Improvement is also reflected in their understanding of the writing process and in their own evaluations of their work. My students also report an enhanced interest in and a renewed excitement about the field of writing.
