Solomon O.
Mathematics Tutor
Competent Mathematics Tutor
When I began tutoring a few years ago, I firmly believed that anyone could do well in mathematics, all the way through Calculus, provided you are relatively fluent in a few formulas and make time for regular problem sets. My experience over that time has only confirmed my suspicions, and its has been a great pleasure to work with many of my students. I have always found joy in getting to the point of a big concept and keeping the focus on the purposeful real-world applications that many of my students' math problems lead to. I think that is why I have been so successful at connecting with a variety of students, and why they have enjoyed working with me. We all agree that maths can become boring, but that it really does not have to be.
About
My name is Solomon, I am a graduate of Food Science and Technology from the Obafemi Awolowo University. I am a certified Information Technology professional with specialty in Troubleshooting and maintaining personal computers, mobile devices and printers and Networking (routing and switching).
For two years now, i have successfully taught students Mathematics, Physics and ICT.
For me, the greatest reward tutoring can offer is watching a student grow in knowledge but also self-confidence. I believe effective tutoring is about delivering complex concepts in simple terms with patience, enthusiasm and encouragement.
Developing strong relationships with students means that parallels can be drawn between what is being studied, and the students' own life experiences, which makes for a deeper level of understanding and, ultimately, better learning. Surely, teaching skills and initiatives that students can then forever more rely upon, such as word association and memorization through recalling related experiences, is the best legacy any tutor can have.
My passion for teaching is exceeded only by my love for learning new topics and building on lessons learned. Persistence and hard work in learning are values with which I grew and have shared with classmates and those I've mentored academically and professionally for the past several years. Seeing the test scores and proficiency exam results improve for those I've tutored is by far the best form of repayment.

My teaching is very conversational and interactive. Philosophically, I view tutoring as an interactive coaching experience. I focus on intimate discussions of conceptual learning as well as problem solving and test taking behaviors. These are the very things that a lecture or class cannot shove down a student's throat, yet are vital to long term success.
