Joy U.
English Language Tutor
About
My name is Joy, I am a Second Class Upper Division graduate of Biological Sciences from Ebonyi State University. I have over two years of teaching experience teaching Primary School Students Mathematics, English Language and Science.
I love helping my students focus on conceptual issues to build confidence in broad skills that can be applied to specific problems. My goal is to help students learn how to approach problems and solve them on their own rather than give answers or step-by-step formulas. I work to build and inspire confidence in my students in order that they master the material in a way that will be reflected in their ability to participate in class and succeed on exams and standardized tests.
In my lessons, I aim to build an engaging, positive and creative atmosphere in which children can flourish. For me, the importance of teaching is to allow children to access all areas of learning in a way that they enjoy, enabling them to gain a love for learning that will hopefully continue throughout their education. I believe that teaching is about the individual and discovering how each child learns and what helps them. I have patience, and I am creative when it comes to teaching.

As a primary trained teacher, I have a passion for teaching creatively and helping children develop a deep understanding of the topic by immersing them in the subject, and giving them the opportunity to take ownership over their learning. My main aim and philosophy in education is to ensure that children develop a firm set of skills which can then be applied laterally as their knowledge base grows, with an emphasis on developing their ability to think critically, communicate and collaborate effectively. I’m firm, fair and hopefully quite fun all at the same time, and enjoy giving children individual support and the time to ask questions, with the aim of ensuring they feel confident and secure enough to pursue the next step in their education.
